AC-XX, Mini?

Who doesn't love those videos of an AC-130 firing down destruction on the enemy? (especially that Artillery piece) However, they are getting long in the tooth, and the AC-XX requirement has been out there. Now there is talk of converting C-27s. Comments? Ideas?

Would a C-17 be a good choice? Faster, carries a heavier load (better for weapons and ammo), proven airframe and the manufacturer would love to keep the lines open for a bit longer:hmm:
