Default Funny patrol result ...

Get a radio report and it says there's a convoy heading almost straight at us... So I get into position and set up the textbook attack. Killed a tanker and an ammo ship, crash dived and as I was going down a destroyer comes straight over me from behind. Thinking to avoid the depth charges I go hard to port. It appears I momentarily forgot about those side mounted catapults. Turned my port flank right into a depth charge that pretty much exploded against the hull. Massive damage... Lots of flooding everywhere and eventually a few minutes later we're beached on the bottom at 164 meters.

Damage report : everything's blown, captain. One diesel left but we lost all the fuel anyways. The front batteries are toast and the rear ones are damaged but still not fully dead. Hydrophones, dead. Both periscopes destroyed. So I try to move and nothing happens. Blew almost all my compressed air to no result and I have enough batteries to try a few more things... So um anyone know how to get un-stuck from the muddy ocean bottoms? Hopefully if I surface the boat I'll be able to ''Return to base''

Hmmm, bit of a sticky situation your in there:hmm: .

This isn't exactly textbook, but you could always fire Bernad out of a torpedo tube, and get him to call for help.

Pump out all the water and you'll be able to surface. Just don't do it if the destroyers are still above.

which year , which dept . the later you're in war the deeper you should stand , lol . seriously do you have T IV or V torps if yes that could represent your salute , except that try the conventional move : expulse the water then try to escape at 1 or 2 knots silent rig (without decoys) whatever you do don't stay inert there are 99 % chances for the destroyer to find you

Agree! Sooo not textbook!

You can hardly operate the tubes at that depth!

if it's early in the war, you might be just below their depthcharges which they may set to 150 meters. Sit tight, cut the engines and keep the planes on dive (thus keeping yourself grounded) while repairing all repairable damage and getting all the flooded water out of the boat and only then try to come up by blowing all you have.

I survived a similar ordeal once (although I wasn't quite as badly damaged)

much flooding after significant DC damage, grounded around 180 meters with the 12 or so DD's from warspite taskforce above me. They sailed off after a couple hours by which time most damage was repaired and the water from the flooding was gradually being pumped out. Only then did I blow all the remaining air and we made it back home.

Good luck with the engine/fuel situation though

Hehe well it turns out I made it. Repaired and pumped for a while and then time accelerated for a few hours to make sure I'd be alone when I went up. The worst was getting the boat moving at all... The dive planes were ''Damaged'' too so maybe that didn't help. The batteries were so low on juice that they only ever managed 1 knot but I made it to the surface (eventually ...). Apparently the return to base button didn't mind I was out of fuel because it took me right back to Lorient .

It was either that or waiting for the next DD to finish me.. I think there should be the ''abandon ship'' option for those situations though. Has anyone ever made a mod that included this? Oh and it was still happy time... late '40. That probably contributed to the DDs not finishing me.

It's a little known secret of WWII that the U-bootwaffe possessed tugboats with hyperdrives.

Isn't there is an "Abandon Career" choice in the menu that comes up when you hit Esc to leave a mission? Now you've got me wondering!

I do know that Jaesen's excellent SH3 Commander has the option of allowing your Personnel File to show that you abandoned ship and were taken as a POW.

Anyways, glad you made it out of there safe. That won't happen again after you reach 1942.
