Now - SHIV was so cheap to buy now - i thought i`ll give it a try.
I installed, patched (1.4) and I am playing my first mission to take a look around. Well - it works. Occasionally the Jap-Boats blow up by themselfs, not all sunken ships show on the map (but i can see them in the log), the station-managment icons are...well not necessarely selfexplaining...my torpedoes can fly, my boat is behaving (moving) strange at high seas, it rains with no clouds...but i can deal with that. Btw - compared to SHIII - the japanese sure have a lot of ships cruising around... ![]() However - after bringing in a spy and then go hunting i sunk a couple of ships. After sending a status report - i got assigned to a new hunting ground, went there, got some ships and i am now out of torpedoes. I send a new status report but got no answer. (can i actually see somewhere, that i`ve sent the report and what it contains??) Also the new hunting ground shows up as not fullfilled. I figured - I have to resupply and go back. Now on the way to the next american base my boat is going to a speed of 0 as soon as i set the time acceleration higher than 256 or something. Crew is fine - one shift is sleeping the rest works normally. No damages show up. Fuel is ok (playing easy) and if i am going on normal time it works fine - the speed goes up and holds. Otherwise it drops to zero. Am I missing something? I work during the day - so i have do not have enough time to travel around at normal time - espacially not for crossing the pacific. ![]() Another question: I came along a pair of ships containg a passenger ship and a large troop transport 3 times now . What are the rules of engagment for the passenger ship? Do i let it go or is it counting? |

Press "m" for messages. It takes you to the captains panel (F12?), there are 3 tabs for the log, messages and orders.
Dunno about speed dropping to 0. ![]() If it's flying a rising sun, it's fair game. Liners and such are actually used as troop transports, theoretically making them combatants. Try surfacing near one; if they shoot at you, you can shoot back. ![]()

Alot of the niggling bugs you mentioned were addressed in the 1.5 patch / add on.
You may want to look into that. |

just be readdy to keep hitting it, it goes to real time anytime an aircraft or ship comes within sensor/radar range or shallow water or near land so due to very large amount of traffic you encounter the tc is a pain sometimes.
as SteamWake said, you should get the 1.5 patch to make the game work so much better, it costs $10 and is a download only version. the only other way to get it is the new "gold edition" of sh4 that gives you sh4 and 1.5 ad-on on disc for $30. trust me you want to get 1.5. |

Yes its a pita but it can be a 'lifesaver' while out on patrol ![]() Just wish it wouldent 'reset' at friendly contacts but I dont think the game knows the difference really. |

it doubles the speed you max out at when near contacts so say your in shallow water or near land you can use a tc of 8 instead of the stock limit of 4 one draw back is that in high time compression you come out of it closer to targets so chances are your going to be detected as soon as you drop to real time. you will need to react quickly since they could detect you at the same time you detect them so you lose your element of surprise unless you react quickly. |
