hi i'm getting a strange bug where an officer goes missing after a patrol. Running GWX 2.1
Basically the officer is supposed to be there (shows up in SH3 commander) but I can't see him or use him. ![]() i tried starting next patrol to see if he showed up, but he didn't ![]() |

Yes, this is an old bug...
Usually an officer will go missing if you have him stationed in the damage control center or even sometimes on the bridge when you return to port and exit a patrol. Just bring him down into the boat proper before a save or at patrol end and he will no longer go missing. In the meantime, you will have to restart at an earlier date (a patrol or two - play with it and see what it takes) to get him back. You will lose some accumulated tonnage and renown, but you'll get your much needed officer back. Then, from then on, bring them all down into the boat before patrol end and you shouldn't lose them again. Welcome aboard! 5string

damn. you have no idea how many times i've played this one patrol due to crashes and save game failures as it is. must be like 6 times now. my game just doesn't want me to complete this
edit: it just happened to me again, the save game crashing bug. is there any way to fix it? Last edited by buglepong; 04-23-08 at 10:25 PM. |

there is a thread somewhere in this forum about saving the game. Here are a few things to avoid: 1)Never save while submerged 2)Don't save while near ports or ships good hunting |

Missing Office Fix
I got this off this website a long time ago and I don't know who to credit for it.
Basically, you are going to find a particular file that is part of your last save game before you came back into port and your officer went AWOL. The patrols are in numerical order, starting with 0 and increasing in number with each additional patrol. So you start here: "My Documents\SH3\data\cfg\Careers\BigBadBob\8". This is the SH3 folder within the "My Documents" folder. My current career is "BigBadBob". Within the "BigBadBob" folder my last patrol was #8. Within folder #8, my last save was "backhome". So I would want to open the file: "crew_config_backhome.cfg" for editing, using the instructions shown below, if I was in the fix you are in. You can open it with "Notepad" or any other text editor. -------------------------------- Bugfix for missing officer (who was left in damage control after a save and exit). Find your latest save game crew config file and make a backup. Open the original file with notepad and locate crew member slot number 11. Copy everything in that slot except for the first line Crew_member_11]. Scroll back up to one of the other officer crew member slots that has an NrComp number of -1 and paste the information over what's there. Make sure you have the compartment you're choosing (ie, no stern torpedo room in an XX1). Do NOT use crew_member slot number 1 as it is not used in the game, and don't use any slot that has a value besides -1 or you'll be missing another crewman when you restart the game. --------------------------------- It's me again... He doesn't say it but the Officers can be found when Type=2 within the crew member dataset. They are always in one of the following crew member slots, depending on the compartment they are in. CREW_MEMBER: 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 18, 18, 22 Most likely, you will find that [CREW_MEMBER_8] or [CREW_MEMBER_9] are empty. (One or both will have a NrComp=-1 value). These are the two berthing compartments' officer slots. He doesn't say to do it but I would change the NrComp=# back to what it was before you pasted the new data containing NrComp=11. The game might actually change it for you but why take chances? [CREW_MEMBER_8] should aways be NrComp=6 [CREW_MEMBER_9] should aways be NrComp=7 Hope this helps & have fun, Bob |

This just happen to me after a very successful patrol with 17 ships and 70+ Kt sunk. Since I didn't save that often, (most saves can't be loaded anyway) I now have to start over after ship number 3.
The stupid thing is, You can't even replace the missing officer, the game will tell you you already have the maximum number. I once had the entire crew gone missing after coming back from a patrol. Now I think I will save the game before the magic carpet trip less the teleporter takes away any more of my crew. Last edited by BasilY; 08-11-08 at 11:10 AM. |
