Default Exxon Mobil made nearly $1,500 per second

Quote:
Exxon Mobil once again reported the largest quarterly profit in U.S. history Thursday, posting net income of $11.68 billion on revenue of $138 billion in the second quarter. That profit works out to $1,485.55 a second. That barely beat the previous corporate record of $11.66 billion, also set by Exxon in the fourth quarter of 2007.

The article doesn't attempt to differentiate between profit and profit margin. To do so would produce a much less explosive article, because once people understand the difference between them, they can then see how much money is actually being made on every Dollar of sales.

Absolutely correct.

Yep. If you analyze Exxons profit margin, its about 12%. Much lower than many other companies.

Well this would be an excellent chance to educate people on the differences. Care to learn us a few things about profit terminology?

Yep the responses here are about what I expected.

Profit Margin.. Ok.. LoL

I'll just say I would not want to purchase stock from them right about now. They will not get ANWR or extra Drilling rights and their investments in Alt Energy research are pathetic.

Therefore regardless of ones flag waving political slant. These companies are dinos. They have chosen not to adapt and people arent buying the bull. That is what I call a looming business failure.

Right on Subman! I heard it was even lower than that. Who gets the rest of the money. Those are the real crooks here, but no one ever asks that one do they

Yep. One thing I find funny is America and it backwardness.

You are taught from day one to work hard and provide a great service.

You work hard and provide a great service and in the process you get rich

Now you are evil because you worked hard and did a great service and got rich for doing what they taught you to do!

Am I the only one that finds this ironic?

Well, yeah. My point was that it's certianly lower than 12%. So, you know, it's kinda been proven recently that your credibility is pretty low, since you post B.S as fact, and given that you managed to go find yourself a number even lower than the initial 12% you posted, proves that perhaps you should take your own advice. As in:

But, what do you need me for. You manage to make that point all by your lonesome.
