Hydrophone problems
Picked up a lone warship and hyrophones worked perfectly but later when I spotted a merchant approx 10,000 yds and went to periscope depth (I wanted to try the Dick O'Kane sonar method) hydrophones would not detect it. I thought maybe too far away yet the DD was detected at a further distance. Merchant got to 5500 yds away yet sonar still would not show any contact. No green light, no sound, and no contact bearing line on the map. It was if it was never there. Only showed when I raised periscope. At first I thought maybe it was a freak occurence. But have tried several differt missions and always the same results. Can't detect a thing.
![]() I really want to try manual targeting and the O'Kane method (from watching Rockinrobin's video) seem pretty fool proof. So any suggestions???????? |

Are you patched to 1.4 or do you have the 1.5 addon? I seem to remember the stock game had an issue of not being able to use sonar at periscope depth. Go a bit deeper just to verify this.
Have you also tried manually dialing the sonar to the bearing indicated by your scope to see if you can hear it yourself? (i.e. go to sonar and simply click your cursor on the sonar dialscreen and it will turn to that bearing). One other thing; you're not mistaking a fishing boat (sails = no noise) for a merchant are you? No offense intended just want to eliminate that possibility. ![]() |

I disabled all mods and tried in the stock game and it worked. Could I possibly have a corrupt TMO or other mod? Thanks for your input

Sonar contact lines disappear when you get visual contact. Your sonarman won't even "report on nearest contact" when it is within visual range (visible on map). A way around this is manually aiming the hydrophones in the sonar-station like Tomoose described, and then giving the order. Try diving to periscope depth or a little deeper and make sure both scopes are down. It will still take your guy some time to confirm the contact, so be patient, or listen and confirm mannually.
Hope it helps. ![]()

I've seen that happen(and seen others report it) with older versions of TMO, no idea on stock. Sometimes merchies could be heard manually, sometimes not. Other times I could hear them and the sonar guy couldn't, and sometimes it was the other way around. I have no idea what was causing this or if it still happens with the newest version of TMO.
