[REL] Sonar Sounds - 4 sets to try!
Hi, with Zen Master Cain, aka nvdrifter's release of the new Depthcharge Shake with sound, incorporated into his Longer Repair Times mod I think that the only thing needing improvement was the sonar pings.
![]() Please let me know your choice. ![]() Now only the updated version 1 Download here: Sonar Cheers.

Very nice Reece.
I never want to hear any of them again. Ever. But when the dreaded time comes... It will be sound pack 1 that changes the colour of my crews uniform. Thanks

I like the first one best, but it seems to be cut short. It ends abruptly instead of fading out.

Hello Reece,
nice collection to choose from ![]() Actually I like best the first and the third. Although I think the first is slightly to short, but maybe thats how it sounded in RL, I don't now. I'm not sure where I read it, maybe "Das Boot", but according to the author the pings sounded like pebbles thrown at the hull. I guess you already know these sounds, but for sure I post the link here: (http://www.uboataces.com/ref-sonar-sounds.shtml) Cheers Mr. Fleck |

Actually I did extend the first, I could try to extend it even further but it may stuff the sound up, but will give it a go, in the actual test, sounded good, I used the Barham SP mission, ran flank on surface, fired torpedo's then dived!

@ Mr Fleck, I actually had those but it doesn't say what sounds are from what subs/destroyers, are they all from ww2 destroyers, some may be from more modern ships, a little confusing.

After reading some articles about ASDIC, I think your first sample comes closest. Here is an excerpt from one of this articles (http://www.uboat.net/allies/technical/asdic.htm) ... Normally the head would be stopped on a bearing and a sound pulse would be transmitted, which would be heard as a "ping" noise. If no echo was received after several seconds the head would be rotated a few degrees (usually 5) and the process repeated throughout the watch. ... Another one states that the micros in WW2 were very simple so an impulse with a large wave length had to be transmitted, else the echo would not have been heard. So the description on "pebbles thrown at the hull" seems to apply more to modern (maybe multi frequency) sonars, but not WW2 ASDIC. Regards Mr. Fleck |
