What triggers the death screen?

I tried thomsen's No Instant Death Screen, and found it did work with SH4. Only problem is utilizing this mod removes many zone from Sh4.

I looked at the files and found no refference for the Instant death screen.

What is it that triggers this annoying thing?

Anyone know of a way of limiting its appearance to when the boat is crushed by pressure, or catastraphic explosion?

Thomsen's mailbox is full, so pming him is not possible.
