Default Forward Base Questions

A couple questions regarding forward bases.

1. Transfers....if I transfer to a base closer to the front, do I keep my boat, and experienced crew?

2. At the beginning of my last mission a new base opened up very close to the front lines. I stopped by and reloaded, over and over again, racking up an impressive score before completing my photo mission. When I did get to the harbor I was to photograph, I sustained some hull damage. It was just as far back to my home port as it was to the forward base, a triangle plot, so instead of taking a chance on not being able to get the hull repaired, I returned to home port.
Question is....If I had just done a 'refit' at the forward base, would it have also repaired the damaged hull?

Questions:
1) yes you do keep your boat, I believe after a couple of mission and later in the war you get a new boat.

2) No, they don't fix your boat you have to go to home port and dock which ends the mission.

If there is a anchor showing then your boat will get repaired if there is damage, it doesn't need to be your home port.
I'm not sure about friendly ports with no anchor showing.

There was an anchor showing at the 'refit' port, I got torps and fuel there several times on the last mission. I'll have to give it a try when it comes to repairs, next time out.

I'm in port now, I have an opportunity to transfer to a base that's a little closer to the front, but don't want to lose the experienced crew I have now. It isn't worth the extra few miles I could save.

Anyone know about losing your crew if you transfer?

Your sub will ONLY be repaired at your Home Port (i.e. Where the tilted Anchor is).

If your Home port is Pearl Harbor - that is the only place where you get repaired.

You only get resupplied at the other ports (i.e. straight up anchors).

If Pearl Harbor is your home port and you pull into Midway - you only get
resupplied (i.e. torpedoes, ammunition, & fuel).

Refit ports do not repair the boat. You have to go to home base for that. There are many drawbacks to not returing to base and doing refits only. You will get more enjoyment out of the game if you RTB once in a while.

Another point I brought up in another post, PV, if you bought any special torpedos, hit a refit before you go to port. They give you the same as what is on your boat. My last trip back to Brisbane, I bypassed the refit and they made me BUY the torpedos again and I was empty. Doesn't happen all the time but it did this time. I had plenty of renown but it's just a pain to take them all out and then pull the scrollbar down, find one, load it, pull the scrollbar down, find one, load it, repeat, repeat.......

I pulled into Guam in early 1945 with a destroyed periscope(bad luck with some aircraft) and when I left it was repaired,so i would guess that bases other than your home base can repair damage.

You can get repaired @ other than your homeport, as long as there is an anchor there, I also say this because i'v done it.
On my way back to Pearl, my homebase, I stopped @Midway and was repaired.

Well, I put my transfer papers in.....and correct you are Penta, I kept my crew.
Matter of fact, I even kept the same next mission. I was hoping if I transferred from Fremantle to Brisbane, I'd be seeing some missions in the Coral Sea area, maybe the Solomon Islands. But I kept the same mission I had been assigned to from Fremantle, to "patrol off the Philippines", in the South China Sea. I hope this will change.
I stopped by Rabaul this afternoon, on the way to Manila....nothing there but a couple freighters....and two sinking DD's .

I'll try getting repaired at a forward base as soon as I get dropped on, to add my two cents to these conflicting reports. I'm guessing sometimes you can get repairs at other bases, and sometimes you can't. It might depend upon how much hull damage you sustained, or maybe which base you stop at....just guessing.

Is that 'you' PV?........from SimHq's?

I needed to reload so just for the heck if it I went south to the land down under.
Darwin was blue(friendly) but no anchor, I couldn't even get a pack of smokes, so i slipped down to Fremantle(Anchor) and was promptly refitted.

Just to clarify:
Blue ports are friendly but won't even give you the time of day.
Vertical Anchored ports will refit/repair you.
Diaganol Anchored port(singular) is your home base.

yup, the solid blue anchors will repair (because they are available as home ports.)

"PV, if you bought any special torpedos, hit a refit before you go to port. They give you the same as what is on your boat."

On the long patrols, I almost always hit a refit on the way out and back to top up the fuel. I consider the torp reload a side benefit since I've not use any on the way out, and won't use any between refit and port.

I don't post on SimHQ (that I remember) but I do use this handle on other war sim sites I frequent.
