Like it was changed in one of the Trigger Maru mods in SH4, i am wondering where u can tweak the propeller speed in SH3, which in my opponion is rotating way too fast submerged. Tried to change the engine rpm in uboat.sim. No effect!! Who can help..

Welcome aboard.
When I first saw this thread I got a bit confused as to how could an airplanes propeler sound too fast under water, after a few seconds i realized you ment the boats screws ![]() I have been awake for too long again, but a foot of snow in 24 hours will do that, lots of shovling for me and it looks like it will be another night of blizzard so more shovling tomorrow. |

Well increasing the engine rpm in uboat.sim has an effect but i havent tried decreasing yet i will give it a try and see what happens

Well.. Apparently there is a lower limit. I have set my rotation to 10 RPM, but the lowest i can get it, is about 100 RPM.

The .SIM file RPM number is the RPM at Flank speed. Based on that number and the percentage of RPM you are running (i.e. 0.4 at Slow speed) is the RPM that the AI thinks you are doing. Which directly affects whether they hear you or not. The RPM dial indicators in the control room are based on the hull speed not the engine order telegraph setting. Propeller visual rotational speed I have never tried to alter. I would think that it is also tied to hull speed. Bob Chase |

Then i have possible made THE most quiet WWII Submarine EVER.. Lol..
Although, if the one who has programmed the GWX mod package has done it, then it must be possible.. The only question is, where the heck is the knob to turn.. Btw. As to my best knowledge, the screws of the sub wouldnt be affected by the subs speed, but more be the slight drag of the water, as they accelerate (in rotation). The only outcome of setting the screws to rotate to fast regarding the subs speed, should be to cavitate some (or a lot). Please correct me if im wrong. After testing with the desired sub speed dial, then the rotation of the screws must somehow be linked to the desired subspeed. But maybe that was what u meant, Bobchase?? Regards Kaleun Hansen |

The propeller turns telegraphs, one port & one starboard, were used to actually tell the engine room how fast we wanted to go. However, SH3 is not the real world. Changing the RPM values in SH3 Inspector changes your subs max RPM number and that, coupled with which 'gear' you are in, Slow, 1/3rd, standard, full, or flank, sets your boats RPM as far as the games AI is concerned. If you were to set your RPM to 500 and run your boat at Ahead Slow, you should see about 100 RPM on the control room RPM indicators. But you won't! They will read something else. Now, if you double your boats Max Speed value, leave your RPM value at 500, and cruise again at Ahead Slow, you will see that the indicators have changed. In fact, they are now reading double of what they were reading before but the only thing that has changed is the boats speed thru the water (at the *exact* same RPM as before). Like I said, we are not in the real world. Simulations, necessarily, take shortcuts to achieve a playable game at a reasonable cost. If there is a 'knob' to change the visual RPM of a sub to a slower RPM, I haven't found it yet. Bob Chase |
