Default VMware help please

I am trying to boot an ubuntu vm with vmware player. It doesn't seem to be working. I open vmware player click download command it takes me to the website. I select a virtual machine. I am trying to get Ubuntu 7.04 desktop. I download the file. click the icon on the desktop and when vmware player opwns it says "syntax error". What am I doing wrong?

I wouldn't mess with it here. I downloaded it thru the package manager. When you go thru this way, make sure that you have the license ready to input when asked.
