Need some help developing mods....

I need to know what files are associated with the locations of docks in the Pacific and Japan. I think I know why many of the ports do not have any Warships. I would like to change some ports to show more warships instead of the same old Merchants. And many of the missions during the War were sent to Truk which was a large base for the Japanese and usually had warships coming and going.

I would also like to see if there were any patrols developed for Truk. Where do I find the patrol definitions.

I have found that you can not make single missions with docked ships because the docks do not come up in the editor. Of course you can put ships in the Bay but that is for single missions only.

The problem with SH4 is that is does not follow the war that closely. The ships in ports should be updated based on the war situation at the time but the game apparently can't do that.

So if there is a good modder out there that can tell me where these are located and if I need some decompilers for some of the files it would be much appreciated.

Regards

Oh yes, one more thing. In TM 1.7.6 Freemantle and Brisbane should be Refit bases. Pearl Harbor was not the only one.

Your best bet is to check with Lurker about using his RSDS mod as a good "pointer" - what he has done with it is recreate the major fleet movements. You could - with his ok if you were to release it as a mod - is hand edit the shipping in whichever harbors from date to date.

As for where the files are - look in data/Campaigns/campaign for the traffic layers
The ports are not defined with traffic - traffic is designated in the layers and put in specific locations. Not sure where you would mod the port stats themselves.

in this case you would use the SHIV Mission Editor
found in the main SHIV folder and once in you would
open the following file for Japanese Harbour Traffic,
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific\Data\Campaigns\Campaign\Jap_HarborTraffic

theres also seperate layers for Air cover coastal batteries
and minefields. You will also find coastal traffic and convoy's
As well as similar layers for the USN side.

on the US side there is a layer for bases I was unable to locate
a Japanese layer for bases myself in the few minutes given here.
it may be its nested within a different layer or it maybe there is
no existing Japanese bases layer. if all else fails you could put the
Japanese naval bases into the US Naval bases layer
I didnt figure out how to attach units to the base in shiv yet
you should talk to either Lurker as Cap' Haplo said or check with
tater either may be able to help

To make the ports show up in the mission editor just open up the editor scroll down to merge and do not tick save box and search for the campaign.loc file and presto!

Hey, DavyJoneLocker,

Thanks, that did it. Now I will try and add the necessary ships to Truk and see if it works.

I created a Truk mission and it works ok. Only had one Subchaser and Destroyer active but i was able to take those out. I think I will add another one and increase the capability of the destroyers as well.

I think I will still have some questions on some of the layers but I will come back to that later.

Thanks

Fine, I can design and layout the stuff but how do I save it as the Campaign_LOC and retain the original information. It just writes it as a mission file with nothing in it. It goes from 467K to 1K even with loading as a land and saving as a land. What else do I do ????

Thanks for you support about these questions. With Taters help I finally got it down so I can do what I want with the Editor.

Thanks again.
