Default Is the GWX2 armed trawler invincible???

I really like the new accurate model of the armed trawler and the sound for the motor is great. I added them to early convoys in the RND.mis file where they in fact did serve and changed their crew rating to 4 so they are effective with their limited AS equipment and deadly in any gun duel.
However, twice I have torpedoed them and once with a hole 20% the length of the ship it had no effect.
Last night I torpedoed another (set depth at almost surface and impact detonator) and this time it did cripple her but while on fire stem to stern she is still active with guns and lights.
I am pretty sure since I sink destroyers and frigates with a decent fish hit a trawler would be blown to bits by a torpedo so was mentioning it for someone to look at unless it was intended to make them equal to a light cruiser in ability to absorb punishment!!!!

Nope. They aren't invincible. I've gunned these boys down with my deck gun on numerous occasions in the past few days.

Be that as it may for the two of you, I have to agree with Wulfmann.

I hit one of those ASW trawlers directly amidships with a torp, blasting a great hole in her and leaving the ship dead in the water on fire from stem to stern, yet it still took nearly 50 hits from my deck gun before the ASW Trawler blew in half.

And she STILL didn't sink. Both halves just sat there burning and smoking, drawing the attention of an enemy bomber on patrol. I submerged, waited for the bomber to pass, surfaced again, and fired a dozen more shots as well as strafing the hull with the flak gun.

Yep, you guessed it...STILL ALFOAT.

Even a destroyer will usually go down after a single torpedo hit!

They've never been able to take this much punishment before in GWX. I could usually blast one to bits with a single eel.

I think whatever was done to fix the "armed trawler bug" in GWX 2.0 may have something to do with it, but I'm not certain of that.

Hopefully it's just one of those weird events that happens in SH3 from time to time.

Will look into it.

We may be left with an 'imperfect solution' assuming the matter you report is consistent... as we cannot reintroduce a CTD causing agent.

Hmmmmm. Come to think of it the other I hit with a homing torpedo did put a big hole in the stern which had no effect at all on the tub.
This one, as can be seen in the screen shot, was hit in the forward area so it was at least disabled.
I understand the dilemma. The only way to allow for shallow DC drops is to strengthen the stern to withstand the blast other wise you have to increase the mim depth of the DC which creates a cheat.
It is perplexing when you can identify the problem and yet don't (as yet!!??!!) have a solution.
But, it is an interesting challenge and I have confidence the team will find a solution.

By all means, Kpt. Lehmann, have a look. But, if it's one of those necessary evils we have to live with to avoid the evil CTD, then I'm willing to live with "Terminator" Trawlers.

And then Bernard, for the word of Thy Lord he carried, said to his tribe:
"And then Thy Lord should appear to us in the middle of the Atlantic, riding his burning bush... I mean trawler. His ever-burning never-sinking holy trawler.

...

Yes. Even Thy Lord has to adapt to local environement too if he wants to touch our cold submariners' heart with grace and make some impression. No kidding.

...

Now, in the name of St Bernard, protector of zig-zag walking and toxic smelly breath, would you please stop playing with my Schnapps, you'd be nice. Im not drunk enough not to slap you in the face, Himmel!"

I'm willing to live with the steel bottomed HMS Bernard Trawler if it means no CTD. Our crew will just think of them as giant BBQ's on which we can roast our weinerschintzels.

I had trouble sinking one too http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=129504

Tested them in single missions afterwards and they went down ok.

They are easy enough to evade anyway. you can even outrun them on the surface if its dark.

My problem is I added them to the early convoys because they were in those early convoys. (In real life they met the convoys on their last third of the crossing)
Once they get a bug up their propeller shaft to stay on you they can hold you down.
In a shipping lane near England where convoys converge escorts will then join in from new passing convoys and even in 1940 I had 4 on me at one time and as they ran out of DCes others would arrive.
I sank 2 a DD and a Frigate and hit the Ubertrawler but was eventually sunk by a corvette. The can dropped right on me and I watched it through the peri and clicked 10X. The can filled the entire glass and blew up. I went straight to the crew and watched them die in quick succession.
My fault for being in 45 meters of water but that is war and one takes a risk to kill the English particularly off the Irish coast to the cheers of the lads and lassies raising a mug for each English ship a burnin!
The trawler was the catalyst that save England from the evil U-46.
And if you look at the gunner on the MG platform manning his post while on fire you know this is a tuff bunch likely soccer fans from Manchester!:rotfl:

There will be changes to the trawler for 2.1
