Hi all. Question 1 is a bit complex... but essentially relates to a modding question. I'm running SHIV with patch 1.4. I just completed a very frustrating mission in campaign, frustrating because my home base was over run by the Japs and no new base was assigned. I can't end the mission. To add insult to injury, I managed to use the remaining fuel to limp into a friendly port (from Surabaya to Darwin on 24% diesel with 6 dives to avoid a/c). I'm in a friendly port with no fuel and dead batteries and I can't get fuel. I didn't understand some peoples complaints about this being an 'arcady' game, but with this I agree. Even in the old Silent Service II game if you ran out of fuel they'd come get you. Has anyone considered modding this? Allowing refuelling (but no repairs or torpedoes) at friendly ports? Or even allowing a player to request a home port? The game knows it (sort of) because the flags on the map indicate no home port. It sucks that I have to lose the whole campaign... Second question... why do you guys insist on using filefront for your downloads? You may be able to download for free, but you have to pay to join. It may only be a few dollars, but it still requires a credit card. A pretty stupid reason to get one, I think... Piers

Question 1:
Check your save game to see what your port got changed to: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=113040 or edit your save game to change your sub to unlimited fuel: Post by Quillan: Quote:
Question 2: I both download from Filefront, and have an account there to upload, and I didn't have to pay anything nor give a credit card number? |

thanks for the info... I checked the files and found my home port was still surabaya but my command was fremantle, so I changed the homebase to fremantle and the map was updated, so now I have a home.
I edited the fuel lines in both folders but no dice, still empty... I'll give filefront another go... I looked at it ages ago... I may be thinking of someone else... cheers P |

Possibly so. In any case, just signed up with filefront, no problems. Thanks for setting me straight!

1.4 clearly marks your home port, too, or at least it does when setting out. Your home port is marked with an anchor that has the top tilted roughly 45° to the left. All other friendly ports where you can resupply are marked with a vertical anchor.
As to the editing thing, there are 2-3 copies of that GamePlaySettings.cfg file in the save folder and its subfolders. I have no idea which - if any - directly control the setting, but change all of them. That's what I finally had to do in order to get home once after some damage.
