Quick preview of my latest movie

To celebrate the advent of the Dangerous Waters screenshot stickied thread, I decided to have a crack at doing a movie with DW, so here's a quick preview:

Hey! That background didn't look like a Katyusha submarine! This is what a Katyusha submarine looks like!



Leave it to sub simmers to set things straight.

Now on to the background screens. THose didn't look like an Akula class background either, so maybe you got the correct Katyusha internal photos? At subsim here, we expect it to be correct and accurate at all times!

Not that it matters, cos I'm only doing a bit of a p*ss take, but, I just randomly picked the name Katyusha for the submarine itself, mainly because the song of that name is one of the bits of music in the film. At one point it was going to be called the Kalinka (another cliche Russian tune that gets used), so it wasn't actually meant to be the type, rather the name of the sub.

The backgrounds were from an Echo-class submarine, this is because the interiors in the Hunt For Red October are incorrect too, being way too futuristic-looking (especially the periscope which looks like the Cylons designed it), it was meant to be a silly retro reference to that, going the other way.

In view of the fact that they repeatedly get the name of the sub sort of wrong in The Hunt For Red October too, I used an 'Akula' rather than a 'Typhoon'. Strictly speaking, the souped-up 'Typhoon' in Red October should be called an Akula, since it is meant to be an advanced version of a Project 941 sub , which is, in reality, called the Akula (shark) by the Russians, the designation 'Typhoon', being only the military NATO designation for it and not what the CIA call it. So it should only be the crew on the Dallas that call it a 'Typhoon' and probably not the CIA characters, especially Jack Ryan, who is supposed to be really au fait with Russian intricacies. What NATO call the Akula, in reality being the Project 971, and more likely to be referred to as the Gepard (or something similar) by the Russians, as I think that vessel is the class type designation boat for the 'improved Akula', as it often gets referred to. 'Confusing it is', as Yoda would say.

Incidentally, if you want attempt to clarify all that malarkey for yourself, I can recommend Wayne Frey's book, Russian Submarines: Guardians of the Motherland (ISBN 0-7414-3447-4), which is full of really cool pictures of all those types of subs and explains a lot of their workings too.

Or you could just ignore all that and watch my silly film:rotfl:
