This question is about the ability of a U-Boat to hide on the ocean floor to avoid detection from enemy destoryers. I've found that it is imposible to hide from a destoryer on the ocean floor in GWX during a three hour long depth charge attack by a British V&W destoryer. Is it possible to "dumb down" the AI so that you can hide on the ocean floor?

Unfortunately you cannot sit on the floor and avoid the Destroyers. It has nothing to do with GWX it's a SH3 Engine limitation.
Sorry mate you will have to keep moving to avoid them. Do it like the rest of us the hard way ![]() ![]()

This was also an issue with stock SH3. As far as the sensors in SH3 are concerned, the seabed is invisible, so making like a hole in the water will not work. Just to be clear, this is not a sensor issue but one of game design. Would be nice though.

Just some thoughts here KptLt. Neuerberg,
In SH3, patrolling ASW forces use both hydrophones and ASDIC alternatively as they perform their sweeps. Hydrophones you can typically avoid by being silent. ASDIC however does not depend on sound to find you. When it gets an echo off of your hull... they have found you and will report your position to other units that will cooperate to destroy you. If you are in shallow water this is bad news. If the maximum range depth of the ASDIC sensor is greater than your depth... the only alternative is to get moving, reduce your sonar cross section (aspect ration in relation to the ASDIC sensor) and try to slip away. Unfortunately, for you in this case, the ASW forces (and the ASDIC sensor) is doing exactly what it should do. Also, toning it down would create a cascade effect of numb sensor effects across the board. (and incidentally make a very boring game for you.) Hang in there, mate. Read "Appendix C" in the GWX manual and you'll have a better chance of evading that situation in the future. ![]() |
