What is your favorite type of ship and why ?
for me i like VLCC / ULCC oil tankers they are slow clumsy but require a skill all to them selves and they challenge even the best captains.

Well--the Love Boat of course!!!! And for all the obvious reasons!
![]() I also have an affinity for Flower Class Corvettes. Short, Clumsy, Ugly, A Sailors Nightmare. Kind of like going to sea on a bobber. But they were amazing in their own right.

Technically a boat, rather than a ship, but the Riva Aquarama is unquestionably the most beautiful thing ever to have been set on the water, so that's my favourite:

I put down Warships, but it wasn't specific enough. I like destroyers. Gearing class destroyers.
Like the one I served on.

Submarine is a boat but I still love them anyway, nothing like sliding underwater for a bit of peace and quiet when there's a storm going on above.

I voted for cruise ship, just because I'm always impressed with their ship handling prowess. Watching an 850ft ship navigate down Tracy Arm Fjord in heavy block ice (Alaska's Sawyer Glacier), or through parts of the inside passage is pretty impressive. I know, I know, they've got GPS, twin screws, thrusters and all, but moving 850ftx108ft and 80K tons in shallow, confined waters still takes a lot of skill. Especially in a narrow fjord where two such ships could not even pass eachother.
When we turned around in Tracy Arm (our way to the glacier was blocked by ice about a mile back from the face), I had the impression of trying to park a Hummer in a compact car space!

Well, since I live in MI the only thing I can really say is the Great Lakes freighter. As far as bulk carriers go, they are unique and even a little majestic to watch sail by.
