im about to expire on my norton 2007 security and as im going back to sea soon i wont be here when 2008 comes out.i have been recommended buyinfg another copy of 2007 to give me a full year cover for only 25 pounds although it might not be as up to date as norton 2008 when it arrives is this a sensible option.is the actual year irrelevant?i would also really like to save money at the moment.

To pay for Anti-Virus is not a smart thing to do. Norton is a slow pig too.
This proggy will do the job for you - for free. Turn off VDRB generation though when you install it - I find that part annoying. http://www.avast.com/ -S PS. Here is the link for downloading - http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html |

Norton works it's way into your system very deeply. It has an amazing ability to reduce your pc to an asthmatic snail.
I like to be objective ![]()

Hi ABBAFAN
![]() Check out SuperAntiSpyware. Google it. You will be pleasantly suprised by it. It's a long story why I have it and have two norton systemworks, one the premium version and four other of there products sitting in a drawer now. If I can give you more info please pm me. It got rid of a nasty and very aggressive problem. Norton and their support let me down. Check it out and let me know what you think. And Good Sailing. ![]() |

I've used Norton for about eleven years but the 2007 version finally really pissed me off. It extended my boot-up by minutes some of it's things would just start up at odd times and use 65% of my 2.2 Ghz processor. I've uninstalled it loosing 6 months on my subscription and have started using Avast. While it free version does not have script blocking I have found out that the danger from it is virtually nil and you wouldn't notice anything if you even had one. Avast found 3 trojans that Norton didn't and it's stopped 2 virus's already. It runs a scan 10 times faster then Norton and there is no drain on resources. I highly recommend dumping Norton and get Avast. I'm really happy with it and it updates itself often. I have a hard time believing something this good is free.

This is good info as usual on this site and will make note of it.
At the moment I'm satisfied with SuperantiSpyware. As for Norton it's, everything that's been posted and worse. ![]() As I posted somewhere earlier I'd like to see a sticky dedicated to computer software and hardware and fixit tips. There's a wealth of talented people that can save our members alot of grief and money here. I know we have a search feature but a stickey on this would save alot of hassle and alot of great info and tips wouldn't get lost. |

1. They want to stop viruses so free will help slow down their spread if people use it. 2. People like to use and buy what they are familiar with. If you use the free one at home, you are very likely to buy and use the same thing at work too. Get the idea? -S |
