Default When In doubt Sink the Escorts

Hi Guys

Most of my careers I have been doing are from 39-42, so I decided to start a career in the middle of 42 in a type 9, so mostly on the nth atlantic run, I found the first 4 patrols up to the end of 42 I could penetrate the convoys and usually not be detected but still had to be very carefull as the ASW is significantly better than the earlier years in my last patrol of 42 I sank one DE and damaged a escort carrier in convoy, the escort got me on radar on the surface and closed within 500 metres but the visibility was only about 500 metres so as soon as I saw the escort I lined up a stern shot and blew her to pieces with a Mag detonator, the last patrol my 5th started in Feb43 and I encoutered a convoy only 5 days out I submerged and was not detected closed the convoy and sank 4 ships the escorts then closed on me but still running at periscope depth I sank the one that had a contact on me then proceeded to go deep and get away on silent speed, but to no avail another escort came up and pounded me for about 5 hours till i had enough and did a emergancy surface but stopped at periscope depth I managed to sink that DE as well with a single shot at about 500 metres, now I thought all was good so i went to 70 metres and headed away from the convoy but two more escorts appeared and got me on sonar again and started another pounding for aout two hours I just couldn't get away tried everything, bolds depth changes taking the boadt to 260 metres but to no avail so once again i had had enough and emergancy blew and got to periscope depth again and promply sank both remaining escorts then basically with no eels left got the hell out of dodge.

Total patrols success, 4 merchants sunk for about 27000 tons, 1 DD, 2 DE's and 1 FG.

I really struggled with the ASW being a veteran of AOD for many years I found the AI for the escorts with GWX on par with that ledgendary game (Still play it by the way, does anybody else just for a bit of fun ?) so I think I will have to target more escorts from now on so I can get to the convoys.

Cheers
Easty

Exellent work there!

ASW in 1942 can be a real pain, seem you were very lucky not to be sunk.
