Default Depth Charge Types

How many different versions are there in the game? When opening the DepthCharge.sim, .zon and .dat file with notepad it only looks like there is one type that is generic.

If that is the question, is it then possible to make more types ?

Don't forget the DC_X_H.dat/sim/zon files. They're the ones that get tossed by Y/K guns.

Theres only one type of depth charge. I think its possible to add a second type, as NYGM in SH3 did just that, (don't ask me how, i never really looked into it), and DC's POOF at 300 meters. No explosion, no implosion, they just disappear at 300 meters. Not that anyone can realistically go that deep in Sh4, so its kind of a non issue.

Can you make them detonate at a specific depth? Unfortunatly no, i wish you could. Hedge hogs you could make them detonate at a specific depth but not depth charges. Speaking of which, i thought the the DC_X_H.dat/sim/zon files were primarly dealing with hedge hogs, at least in SH3.

It'd be interesting to add the 600 pounder that the Japanese added to their arsenal later on. Keep the 250 pounders for the K-Guns and put the big boomers on the racks. What'd be even more fun would be giving the 600 pounders their own sound file when they go off :hmm: . I may have to start looking at these things. I'm beginning to feel kind of guilty abought what all the modders are doing for me while I just sit back and enjoy their efforts...

Cheers!

I'd rather have some light early war types that can't go deeper than 100-150 feet.

I agree tater but from what I've learned from SH3 is that those depth setting are hard coded... I think it'd take a better geek than me as I'm just a tweaker. Haven't written any programs or code since my C64 days. I think my idea of having separate sounds for different dc's is even beyond me.

Speaking of Depth charges, i was experimenting with sounds. In many of the books you read, they describe depth charges as having a click, followed by a boom. So i tried to emulate that, although im not sure how its turned out.

PM Ducimus. You have my full attention with this sound mod. Also check this link and look down the list for actual recordings.

and btw--from interviews I've had--I'd say you're on the right track with this sound file. I think I'll replace the original with it tonight. I like the 2 distinct sounds--wham and then an "echo" type sound.

Awesome!!!
