Default Another Posting about Performance

....but I just have to do this :p

OK, since Patch 1.2 SH4 seems to be able to run smooth on my system....when I start playing, inside harbours and convoys, performance is about the same as with SH3 and GWX...

...for some time at least, there is this problem that after a while of playing (between 10 minutes and one hour) -mostly when I switch stations, views and time compression a lot- the games performance completely screws up rendering the game unplayable.

I always have to save and exit (which takes an eternity with mouse and keyboard response slowed down) and restart SH4 to get rid of this.....

thx to anyone who has suggestions.....

Specs:

AMD Athlon 64 3700+
2 Gigs of RAM
Radeon X1950 pro
WinXP pro sp2

I'd run Performance Monitor while playing and watch the private working set of sh4.exe as well as the counters Free & Zero Page List Bytes, Available MBytes, Page Output/sec, and Page Input/sec.

I recently started getting this. I installed 1 more gig of RAM making 2 total gigs. Since then, when I hit F2 for the inside view of the command room, the game go to super slow motion. I hit F3 to go to the map and it clears it up.

I have close to the same system....But my XP/sp2 it slimmed dowm an tweaked to the max

AMD Athlon 64 3700+ No OC
2 Gigs of RAM
2 Seagate 80 gig in raid0
GF 6800 ultra No OC
WinXP pro sp2

I get slow downs if I haven't defragged in a while. I use UltimateDefrag by DiskTrix an set it up for power defrag.

Since I have a dialup I don't have my anti-virus or firwall running when off line..

I only have 2 things in my startup group, my mouse, a razer copperhead an the nvidea.cpl.
I have a fixed swap file on my OS raid0 array an another fixed swap file on my other raid0 array, both the same size of 1.5x my installed ram....

Hope this helps........

For some reason, it lags like terrible on an 8800 GTX with 360 gigs, 2048 megabytes, and a 3.5 GHz processor...

Well he is using an ATI card - so I dont think the same issue with two different driver sets could be the cause - but a reinstall of the vid drivers cant hurt. I would check a couple of things - first make sure you are not recording the mission - if you do - your swapfile expands hugely. Second - make sure all the "Dev" options in the cfg file are turned off. Especially the debug - as that sucks a lot outta your system and you dont need it on. Good Luck!

I have 2 GIGS of RAM, a GeForce 7600GT video card and a P4 3.0 processor. This game plays like a dream on my system with graphics maxed out. I've disabled Volumetric fog and the event camera though. What background programs are you running?

Now do you get to that debug deal and change it?

It is C:/Sh4/Data/Cfg/Main.

Look for...

[DEVELOPING]
DevDebugEnable=Yes
DevEditEnable=Yes
MiniDump=Yes

and change to ...

[DEVELOPING]
DevDebugEnable=No
DevEditEnable=No
MiniDump=No

This is one of those tweaks you read about that actually sems to work!
