Radiolog final *Released*

Greetings;

I will be releasing (with permission) Irishred's radiolog final.
It is a compliation of the radio logs that were done and released with duplicates removed and known spelling errors corrected. This will be JSGME compatable, it is a text mod and so you can copy and paste what you want as well. The mod will change replace entries in the messages_en file. Instructions will be included. This mod will not alter any other in-game messages and should be fully compatable.

The d/l will have two selections.
One being the final to include aprox. 1500 radio messages.
Second option will be the final plus the additional-time-line radio messages, totaling aprox. 1900+ radio messages.

This mod will enhance radio messages received and add some life to the radio messages in the game. Viewed of course with the "M" key when they are sent. Messages sent are scriped to be broadcasted at specific times on specific days. they are repeated untill the RO receives 1 of the broadcasted or sent messages. Or, untill the timer runs out. It also means if your too deep or in port durring the times sent you won't see them, by default. Of course not all days have messages, some days have more then 1.

I should have this ready in a few days, figgure to announce it ahead in case there's any questions. For example i thought to include a third option that has just the game default messages for times that players wanting minimal messages sent.

From the documentation Readme file;

INTRODUCTION
Re-released by permission from IrishRed.
Radiolog Final 2006 is a compilation and reproduction of ALL the radio logs done by IrishRed prior to 2007.
Radiolog Final 2006 Plus is the same compilation, with the additional-time-line-radio-messages added. (done by danurve)
The compliation has minor spelling and editing corrections done, and hopefully all the duplicates removed.

Final has some (1450) radio messages including the Stock messages with authentic headings.
Final Plus has all these with the additional (480) time-line messages, totaling over (1950) radio messages.
Basic has just the game default radio messages, that's it.
Radio logs are JSGME ready. You can have all radiolog folders in the JSGME Mods folder at the ready but only enable one.
It is recomended your familiar with JSGME before proceeding.
This is a text mod so you are able to cut and paste what you want for a manual install if you like.
FOR JSGME INSTALL
Copy the radiolog folder of your choice into the /Mods folder of your Silent Hunter III directory.
Caution: it is always recomended to be inport before adding any mods.
Using JSGME select the radiolog mod and enable. Done!
MANUAL INSTALL
Copy the selected radiolog messages_en.txt file (or copied lines) into your local Campaign folder;
(../data/Campaigns/Campaign/messages_en.txt)
Caution: if you use this method, use a quality text editor, Do NOT Word Wrap!
MISC
Radio messages add enjoyment and life to the game by way of communication. Although eye-candy for the most part, the messages
are from reliable sources and as a result are ment to be accurate. Accurate for the time & date as well as the message content.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Thanks goes to IrishRed for permission to release a compliation of the work done.
Decided to name it radiolog_final_2006 because it is after all a release of prior work completed. And as IrishRed indicated future work may continue.
An example would be I am working on an expansion of radiolog messages, using mostly the same sources as prior logs done. The work should maybe* be completed by the end of summer depending on the usuall jazz in the way.

* thats a big maybe

Will important messages have a timer greater than one day, i.e. repeated over a couple of days so that you have a chance of receiving it if you were submerged when it was initially transmitted ?

Kpt. Lehmann; Does the new version go all the way through 1945?
For give the long answer but yes and no.
For the most part this is a final of where Irishred and the guys helping him left off. Most of those entires seem to concentrate on early war till mid `42 and I was able to include several `42 -`45 lines from one of their works (logs). So basicaly yes it does go through till wars end but concentrates on the first - 2/3 rd's of the war.
Now, this is where additional-time-line-messages kicks in. It has several lines for early war but a large portion of them are set for mid to late war.

I am planning and working on a radio-log expansion, using for the most part the same sources as Irishred's logs. Unfortunatly this is a summer project and the earliest prediction would be end of August. It will include an estimated 1100-1500 more/new radio message broadcasts. I'm hoping people understand the time it takes plus the checking etc. Of course it's not heavy duty modding like you guys do but it must be accurate and tested.

Alex; Good luck man,
It would be great to have translations, I won't use those internet translators. I mean they are good for a few words but word for word isn't nessesarliy the correct use of the intended language. Someone with time to burn is more then welcome to translate the works once it's out of course and I'd host it. All I ask is it is translated by a person and not a computer word for word program. And so, I do what I can do in English.

Uber Gruber; Good question but it is another open ended thing. All the msgs even the additional ones will broadcast for a few hours untill received, but are set to time out. Many have longer timers, being a text mod you can edit the time out for something of what you want to any of them. The danger to that is I don't know what having dozens of non expiring msg timers will do to the game if they don't time-out. Perhaps nothing, but I don't want to chance a ctd just for radio msg's.

Once all is said and done it is possible the messages text file will have near 3500 lines. Many of them more then one sentance. And so this to will have to be tested to make sure nothing crapps out. I am thinking it is better to release the existing works this way because I already have them running and know it works.

It's nice to see someone working on this again. Take your time, get it right, and never forget this quote from Jim Morrison: WE WANT THE WORLD AND WE WANT IT NOW!

I understand what you mean. Word for word translation from english to french is most of the time not correct. But... 1500 messages approximately ... I'm going to need time. :rotfl:
It's really going to be a JOB, no more no less.

If you look after the end transmission time you will find a single number that can be either a 0 or a 1, 0 = transmit message once , 1 = transmit message until received. Behind that there is a set of numbers between 10 and 100 which equal the probability percentage that a message will be transmitted. The next set of numbers is the number of minutes between retransmisions of the message.

Thanks for your answer Danurve.

Concerning "heavy duty" modding stuff... Well, it sounds heavy duty to me. That's a lot of messages to input and test... and considering a simple typo could potentially break it all...

If it wasn't heavy duty, I think good old Irishred would have finished it about a year and a half ago.

Well, it was mostly having an overtime load of classes and trying to manage everything else on top of it. I'm not going to say I'm never going to finish it, but at this point I'm not saying I am going to finish it either if that makes sense.

It makes perfect sense. And fair play to you for the attempt. It is a huge job and just because it is text doesn't mean that it's not time consuming, detailed and just as demanding as hex editing.

Anything you get done is a bonus to those of us with less time or inclination to tackle something like this.
