So that's why they're disappearing.

I heard about Bees disappearing in the USA.

Apparently we export a lot of them now. Quite an odd thing.

Two years ago I had a hornet's nest for one season under the roof, entrances directly at my balcony. It was interesting and entertaining. Why should I have wished to burn them (forbidden in nGermany anyway)? The kids of the family living in the flat below me repeatedly rang at my door and asked if they could go to my balcony and watch them. I then slowly lifted one roofing tile. After I taught them to move slowly and not using soap with smells before, they lost their fear completely and even accepted if sometimes hornets were landing on their arms and hands.

None of us was ever stung (stinged? stanged? staccatopunctured? ) Maybe I read too much into it, but I got the impression that hornets are not agressive, but can be very curious.

Observing insect states (ants, bees, wasps, hornets) I find to be fascinating. The honret nest still is up there. Only bad thing was that they produce quite some ammount of - well, what you usually produce after a while when you eat meat (the larvas only) ...

A few years ago, we had hornets that were so big that when my little ones first spotted them, they ran to me telling me that there were flying monsters THIS BIG (their arms outstretched to the max) coming into their room.

Frankly, they looked even bigger to yours truly. They must have folded their wings in order to climb inside. Even Hitchcock couldn't picture these! The room shook when they buzzed.

Slammed the window shut on them and called hubby in a panic to say we've been invaded.

The exterminator came the next morning (sleepless night) and most probably used VX to kill them. They had built a small hive (hard as a rock) inside the upper edge of the outer window box.

That is the dumbest thing I have seen anyone do since I watched my friend run 300 yards into a field to kick and get sprayed by a skunk.:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

My dad was a beekeeper, and frankly, I hate the little sob's.
