Amazing how much equipment, controls, weapons and people could be in such a small place.

![]() ![]() Second thought, in the engine room, you almost shudder thinking of how loud it must have been in there with those Fairbanks chugging away. Third thought, too bad the dude didn't stick his camera up in the conn to have a look around, since that is where I spend a great deal of my time. Forth thought, what is the sounding indicator doing there in the control room? Is it modeled that way in SH4? I don't remember it being that way... What is that electronic gizmoe with the round screen to the left of the planesmen position? All in all, if you are reading this thread, try and view this thing from beginning to end. ![]() |

What a cool video! I loved the music, too. Anyway, it always amazes me at the number of switches, valves, and pipes in a sub. And this is WWII! Modern subs are even more insane.

The Cobia is a great boat. They did a fantastic job in keeping it as original as possible. A lot of the instruments still work, like the radar for example.
I'm going up to Manitowoc on July 21 to spend the night in the sub. I cannot wait. With the regular tour, you don't get to go into the conning tower but with the special overnights, you can. It is going to be fan-freaking-tastic. I cannot get enough of the smell inside those old fleet boats. The potpourri of diesel oil, metal, electronics, sweat that has permeated every surface is absolutely heaven for me. I'll be going up again on August 18th. They are having the Cobia reunion and they are going to fire up the diesels!! I'll be sure to get a video of that, for sure!!! Chuck |

Plus the subs are bigger! Not that fleet boats were, by the standard of their time, small! |

That is what I was thinking, everything in a Nuke boat from what I have seen (but haven't been IN one) looks much 'cleaner' w/o the mess of tubes and valves on the walls.
I'd love to get the see the conn in this boat. Make sure to post any video you take during your night there. Wow, how freaking lucky! |
