Default [REQ] Narwhal | Nautilus

Hi Guys,
I'd love to see those 2 boats in the game, especially considering the two deck guns. Is that possible?

Need some serious 3D modeling and a lot of scripting I would say. We are talking Exterior and Interior here...possible but a major project if you ask me.

No no no it is very easy, please give it a try :p Yo could do only exterior and reuse the interior...Salmon and Sargo appear as different subs but could be regrouped in a category or upgrade, or just let one of them out, leaving place for the Narwhal

Also, if the models already in SH4 can be edited, probably doing a Narwhal starting from a Perch or Salmon would be much easier....

Wasn't narwal Huge compared to Sargo class? I thought the nautilus and Narwal were the largest boats in the fleet during the war.

Now one Nautilus that would be interesting and fun would be Jules Verne's machine (the visual model being the Goff model from the Disney movie)

The idea of Being the torpedo with all intentions of surviving just is very interesting.

WO: Ship spotted bearing 020, short range.

You: Turn course 345!

CE: New course 345!

You: Collision Speed...FULL!!

CE: Collision speed full sir!!!!

Yea, that would be fun.

@RDP: Thx :P I tend to lurk around on boards before I start writing, though.

Yeah, Narwhal and Nautilus were the biggest US subs in the game, featuring two pretty big Deck guns but only 6 tubes.
Still: They would be so much fun

The Narwhal is so big that the sequence would be like this:

WO: Ship spotted bearing 020, short range.

You: Turn course 20!

CE: New course 20!

You: Collision Speed...FULL!!

CE: We have already collided sir, we rammed the enemy with our bow while turning!!!!

You: All right! Man the guns and prepare the boarding grapes! FIRE!!

Narwhal/Nautilus/Argonaut (same design, only as a minelayer) were pretty much a copy of the late WW1 german U-Cruisers, right down to their engines.
However, the americans never got their MAN engines to work properly, which gave the boats a very limited surface speed.
In WW2, Narwhal and Nautilus got new diesels.
And both got external tubes on the former boat deck, as well as external torpedo storages.

The two subs were huge in comparison to the others, both were eventually equipped to become minelayers and troop transports... I think one of them was converted to a training vessel later on....

One forseeable prob with modeling them is the guns they mounted were 6 inch...

If you wanted to stay historically accurate you'd have to enter another weapon into the game.
