Default Thank God for SH3

because man... the SH4 forums can get pretty darned ugly!

nearly all that is posted is stuff like

i hate ubi...

why is my thread closed...

we need to get a lawsuit against ubi...

we need to petition ubi for another patch...

etc etc etc

its as if the SH3 forum contains soft music in a fairly quiet setting where there are a bunch of Kaleuns discussing tactics and offering advice to the new L.T.s fresh our of U-boat school... and then you go and open the door to the SH4 forums and its like opening the door to a pre-school filled with screaming, yelling, and flinging poo

but here in the SH3 forum we have open and generally pleasant exchanges with one another. SH3 was good to start with - nowhere near what the modders made it into but it was a good product from day one as far as im aware.

I have purcahsed games that i can stack up wall to wall in my office here, and several of them have been BAD products wrapped in pretty boxes with cool screenies but it never once crossed my mind to petition anyone or get a lawsuit going. just a situation where you have to live and learn and throw that particular game into the buck fifty bin at the next garage sale!

anyway i just wanted to praise the SH3 bunch and how grouded in reality you all seem to be. what a group of modders and players we have over here in the Atlantic!

As I recall SH3 wasn't that much better when it was released
That the modifications it has underwent has totally transformed it into a mega game, I gotta agree

allow me to revise my statement...

after playing vanilla SH2 for ages and ages and thinking it was a pretty cool game

i loaded stock SH3 on the day of release and it was AWESOME compared to what i was used to.

i cannot say that stock SH4 had the same "wow" effect on me when compared to what i am now used to.

as a player who enjoys a strong basis in realism and immersion, i have developed a need for many compartments in the sub, working stations, and a somewhat interactive crew that does more than just look at me funny.

I know SH3 had issues when it was first released, but when it was compared to the subsims i had grown accustomed to playing it was nothing short of revolutionary.

while SH4 was just a new coat of paint on the same old subsim... it would be as if SH3 were just a remake of SH2 with higher resolution or a clearer picture.

does that make better sense?

Both your posts make sense mate
I'm not disagreeing with you
I think SH4 had a harder act to follow in SH3 (modded) than that which SH3 followed (SH2).
On a personal note I'm bitterly dissapointed with the quality of SH4....I pre ordered it despite my connection with GWX

lol I love that description. I can picture it in my head. :rotfl:

But anyway, you are so right. This forum is still pretty pleasant. For the most part it always has been. I am still baffled how the devs could have missed the mark so much on SH4. The drama over there is something else. When patch 1.4b hit the scene, SH3 was (and still is) pretty darn playable. I really enjoyed it before the supermods arrived on the scene. Then that is when SH3 went to an entirely new level.

There arent any WOW releases anymore.. just sequels. They need to bring somthing better and LISTEN, not only to the $$$ !

SH3 will be better due to the fatalism its having it into. Yes.. just think!

SH3 will be better due to the atlantic.. think!

We still play "stock 1.4b" for multi-player games and it is excellent. And despite having played it continuously since the day it came out, I'm still finding new things in this game. SH3 was a giant leap forward over anything ever published so far.

I've not played SH4. Having read the reviews, I've decided not to buy it.

So, I'm left thinking, what would I do, if I were the SH3/4 devs? Well, I guess it would be to write a destroyer based game, that would interface with SH3 for Escort-v-Uboat battles. SH3 is fine. It works well and the community have modded it to a higher level for those interested in such things. But as a developer, you have to think "what can't the community do?" and "what would be a giant leap forward for the genre?".

I can really relate to this post, SH3 is like a nice peaceful holiday in the carribean compared to the stress of SH4. I have to say, I don't feel the same about SH4 as SH3 apart from the graphics!
I like to come over to this forum to chill out after asking someone why I don't have a watch officer on my American boat!
