Default Sarkozy pressing the pedal

I hereby officially nickname him Nicolas "Quicksilver" Sarkozy, and this French speedy has made some interesting and apparently pragmatic choices in picking his cabinet.

And he did it FAST!

Despite having become the new foreign minstre, Kouchner maybe will proove to be a sting in his socialist party's tail - they are surely not the closest of friends anyway.

And concerning the relations to the Germans: despite the kisses and embracing between Sarkozy and Merkel I think "die Deutschen sollten sich besser warm anziehen..." This French government will not be a comfortable one to deal with, especially in economical questions.

...Mr Kouchner's pro-American line should fit in well with Mr Sarkozy's thinking, the BBC's Caroline Wyatt reports. He was one of the few French politicians to support the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003, on the grounds that it would topple Saddam Hussein...

Wait and learn. For Sarkozy, first comes France. Then comes Europe. And then - if the situation allows - America. For Russia, and Turkey, he has extremely limited sympathy. I would caution every American to have high expectations here. He will agree on more compromises that do not really hurt him, but where it comes to French core interests, he will not act much different than we have seen in the past years. Maybe he will act even tougher.

Just consider this: the more EU member there are, and the more American influence there is - the lesser influence is left for France. But France is top of his agenda, he is known to be a burning patriot and admirer of France's glory and past. Ehem - conclusions, anyone...?
