Having finally got my stuff sorted to play again, I'm finding the water a little bit too 'dark' - I know realism is all the thing, but I'd like to know which files/parameters I have to change (withiout being too complicated about it) to increase the visibility distance under water. The colour is fine, you just cannot see very far. Are the two independent of eachother - colour / visibility distance?
I like the visual spectacle of being depthcharged or cruising along just above the bottom etc. Anyone provide me with a link to a topic or the files I need to look at? Ta.

Nice option with Commander, if you don't like it, just roll back Commander when exiting the game.

Set Cmdr to its maximum (20) and you've got water the equal or perhaps even clearer than stock

I have tried many water mods but I'd say that the best is Krillers water, it's a little merky but can still see your boat relatively well, IMO, more realistic!

Please be advised, (nothing against Kriller at all meant) ... just a heads-up.
Using the Kriller water mod on top of GWX will likely remove the Moon reflection on the water and possibly bring back the old "sky dome vortex" bug. The water opacity is tough to adjust as far as the GWX mod is concerned... due to the individual traits of different monitors. Underwater opacity may be reduced in GWX 1.04 by a couple of points, though I have no intention of going crazy with it. |

I have had no problems with this in GWX, still have moon reflections & no "Sky dome vortex", these are only the 3 Env colors, if you are using JSGME try it, if there are problems simply uninstall!

Thanks guys, In the end I installed SHCommander again and cranked up the thingy to '20'. Can see (within reason) the bottom and depthcharges as I got hammered sailing through the channel in '39. Very out of practise, me. Loosing my boat in the first month of the war...
![]() I still don't get if you're meant to run the game from the commander thing, or just apply the settings then open the game as normal? Doesn't seem to make any difference either way... ![]()

Run it from the 'commander thing' for the settings to take effect

Other, very old topic (from my harddisk :-)
"Just if you want to know, the underwater visibility is stored in the scene.DAT file. There is a setting called "UnderwaterFogEnd." Legitimate values for this setting can range anywhere from 1 to 20, with 1 being opaque, and 20 being translucent. For comparison purposes, RUb uses 4, Default SH3 uses 18, and I personally use 12." Best Regards Stary Wuj |

the easy way to fix water clarity to your liking is to use timetraveler's mini tweaker to fix it. open the scene.dat file and you will find water opacity, i believe each number stands for 1 yard of visability. the higher the number the clearer the water and the farther the underwater view will be. i would not recommend making big changes, maybe 10 at a time until your happy, but if you want hollywood clear use 100 and aquarium clear 250 for maximum underwater visability.
