Default Guide howto upgrade supermod less painfull when using conflicting mods.

When the new version of your favourite supermod is released (ie. FFT or RFB) you dont have to merge all conflicting other mods again. Supermods contain many files, but with new version only few was modified according the previsious version. So we can only updated changed files and leave rest of files unchanged. If merged (with conflicting mods) by us before files have now differences we could leave them and not merge them again!

How to do that?

We must have:
1) Our modified/merged with other conflicting mods previsious version of supermod
2) Orginal unmodified by you copy of supermod previsious version
3) Orginal unmodified by you new version supermod

Uninstall your supermod by JSGME first!

Steps to take:

1) Open Winmerge (download it from internet - it is freeware)

2) Compare orginal unmodified supermods (previsious and new) main dirs with option "Include subdirs"

3) In View select to show all files except "Show Identical Items"

4) We have now cute list of modified files - select all (select first by clicking it, next select last by clicking it with SHIFT pressed)

5) Right click on selected all files and chose "Copy"->from side with new version! In my case it was left so "Copy left to..."

6) Browse to your main dir of your modified supermod and accept it

7) Check the copied files - if there was file copied that u merged before u must merge your changes or changes from conflicting mod again to this file!

Rest of files u dont have to edit/merge.
Now your modified supermod main dir is updated to new version.
Enable it again by JSGME.

Hope this help some supermods users

Hey thanks for the tip...but my problem is usually with changes inside configuration files like the menu1024.ini and/or commands.cfg/dials.cfg etc. It sounds like winmerge will only import complete files but not go into files and edit them individually. I wish modders would include the full list of changes in the menu1024 file for mods like the nomograph and the SH3 Map tools, so I can manually add them in to other mods which use the menu1024.ini

For example - new RFB 1.24 dont have any changes in menu_1024_768.ini (I mean between RFB 1.23 and RFB 1.24) so using described method it dont need to be changed. So I just use old one - edited by me in 1.23

If there are changes in some merged by u file Winmerge allow u to see diferences between files, and copy left to right or right to left diffs, even edit if needed. After all u save file and u are done. (look at step 7 in described solution)

Just check that there is no backup file (u can turn off making backups in winmerge options). Many people write in forum that copys of files even with changed name provide problems and the game could load old backup/copy file instead of new one with correct name (sic!).
