Default strait out of das boot...

I left Kiel on Nov. 17th. sunk 14k of light shipping on the way with 3 eels and some 5' on the way to my grid.

then, something happened that i never thought i'd make it out of. I went after a task force operating in my grid. I figured 'what the heck, it's 1939 lets go for it!'.
Bad decison.

After a sucessfull backbreak on a DD, the others immediatly surrounded me. depth charges left and right, and no external view to cheat out of the way. took 2 at medium range and started to take on water. deeper, deeper, uncontrolable dive. i levled out just as i skimmed the bottem. at ahead slow, the impact stoped me right on the floor.

after about 3 hours of repair, we managed to blow to the surface, and lipm the long way (aroung GB) home. only lost 1 seaman. one patrol this kaleun will never forget.

any one with a similar experience?

NOTE: only running vanella SHIII

Yes i've had a patrol like that.

Severly damaged boat. Attack & Obs scopes both destroyed, radio destroyed, hydrophone destryoed, stbd diesel destroyed, stbd electric destroyed....90mtrs getting depth charged. 3 seamen dead on the return jouirney.

I didn't sink a single ship....but BDU did award me the Knights Cross for my efforts in saving my boat and crew and getting them home safely

Well, i hit the bottom at about 155, but everthing was so heavily dammaged that i couldent use the nav officer to get exact depth.

on a ligher note we made it home unscathed after that incedent, with 20% hull integ.

Just finished a patrol in the Meds - totally uneventful, three weeks of trying to catch the contacts... on the way home we got spotted by a lone search plane which promptly changed course to attack. Thought I give my crew something to do and engaged, killed the bastard, too... shame that he slammed right into the boot

destroyed the tower completely and lost me two sailer, two NCO's and one officer on his last (15th) patrol... limped back into port on 33% Hull integrety...

Lesson learnt? -- Nah...

Good to hear Spytrx. The Med is great fun, shallow water lots of DD's and aircraft. not to mention the lovely sunny weather, hanging around the Greek Isles. Bliss!

Only time like that I ever had was in the area where all the convoys going to and from Liverpool are. I tryed to get to the Atlantic but I just hid on the bottom and it gave up after 4 HOURS of depth charges!!! Not cool man!!!!!
