Default SH4 German files!

I've been looking through the files and folders in my SH4 install and have found loads of direct draw surface images with german pictures (dials, recognition book cover, crew faces, medals etc etc). Does anyone know why they are there? Is it because SH4 is a progression from SH3 and the developers haven't bothered to delate these files?

Have a look in SH4/Data/Menu/Data at some of the DDSI files and see what I mean

This is not news.

They are relics from SH3.

Have fun !

Thanks for the info. I wasn't suggesting for one minute that I'd found something groundbreaking, just simply curious as to why the files were there (just thought that I should add that my answer isn't meant to sound sarcastic). Strange that some of the graphic files from SH3 are of much better quality than the ones from SH4. The German medals, awards and maps for instance are gorgeous.

That's wierd. Why would there be a ton of old German files on the disk?

Surely they aren't so lax that they'd not even bother to delete the old stuff? Wowsers.

Not quite sure what OP is supposed to have fun with though. Bizarro comment there.

Basically SH3 was the template for SH4 hence the left over files. I guess house cleaning was not their big thing buuuuuuuttttttt......the modders are very familiar with SH3 files and it makes it easy for them to create mods for this game

Its simple really.

It takes alot less time and effort to leave those relics than it does to pick through them and delete the ones not used.

As to having fun obviously the OP enjoys digging through the "guts" of the program. I was giving him good wishes and hope he continues to dig.

Ooooh. Intriguing. Potential for a SH4 based Atlantic campaign. Thanks AVG.

Some are working on it. I do that a few ships from SH3 have found their way to the Atlantic

Take a look at the basic.cfg file. It's basically SH3 and apparently not used. I used to mod the basic.cfg file in SH3 to carry more torpedoes or ammunition but it doesn't work in SH4

Has anyone considered making an Atlantic expansion for fleet subs? It would be much simpler than porting over U-boats. It would only take creating a few new ports and bringing over alot of the atlantic theatre ships, plus alot of campaign scripting.

Yes , but german shipping not was very important during WWII, and germany not depend of the sea for supplys.

A atlantic campaign could be only the search of u-boats and some warships units.

The most interesting thing is use sh4 engine for simulate all sea campaigns, allied and axis and be able to choose .
