I used to sell telecom also, and that business is a bigger scam than office supplies.
Basically, it costs a telecom company about $25 per month just to have a customer, whether that customer is a business or a consumer. Everything over $25 per month is profit. The cost of maintaining the network is a flat fee regardless of the number of users. So the whole goal is to get customers to pay more than $25. It's sort of like an airline packing as many folks on a plane as possible to maximize profits.
