Default planes do not attack me

Has anyone else encountered this? I'm in an S-boat at the very start of the war (12/41). Patrolling between formosa and the philippines and I don't dive for jap airplanes. They fly right past me. I could wave to them and they don't care. And its all different kinds from Betty's and Zero's to regular search planes. I'm playing a hard campain at 65% realism. Just have manual targeting and god mode and external views enabled.

I noticed that the I was spotted as much in my S-boat. I was spotted only 2 or 3 times in numerous visual sightings of enemy planes.

I tend to think the small boat, relativly low speeds and smaller wake are helping you out. Consider it a blessing, aircrafts are your nemesis, dont engage them unless your backed into a corner. Because even if you kill them , they wil llikly vector more planes to your location, in theory they'd blow your cover and divert traffic away from you. Remember, subs are covert weapon platforms. Stealth and guile are your best assets.

Something is horribly wrong with aircraft. I don't know what it is, but ive had planes fly 3000 meters off my bow and not notice. Im trying to adjust that, but this is something that started to occur in patch 1.2. It might not be a simple detection tweak.

I was doing a night surface attack at a harbor in the Mariana islands... I sank like 4 or 5 ships. Sped out at 16 knots until the sun rose. As the sun crested I dove to periscope depth and continued on batts until they were dead, about another 6 hours.

I ordered to surface the boat.... one minute later (yes, one minute):

AIRCRAFT SPOTTED!

Okay, sorry, but that is a bunch of BS. This BS continued 30 minutes I had another 4 aircraft sightings. This game is so gorgeous please please please fix it...

Count your blessings. Rest assured everyone within a 200 mile radius knows exactly where you are.

I had much the same thing. Two float planes just flying by like nothing happening. They went past me three times. I even fired the AA at them to get their attention.....nothing... I posted a thread just like this. Still no answer. I said, well screw it, don't want to deal with the darn planes every two seconds anyway. Right after that, wham, they came alive and started bombing.

I do not know what triggers the buggers to wake up. Maybe your speed or proximity. Maybe a trigger on certain year or month. I do know that when a task force is near they appear frequently and bomb. Other than that they seem to be on a milk run.

Now that they are awake and I'm sure will start attacking you, I was able to work with damage control and figure out more deeply how it functions. Damage control is not so bad. I'm still working with it.

I had that happen on midway too, it seems once outa bombs and bullets they still go thru the motions of attack, lol they crash into each other on straffing runs cause there so many of em, good fun dodging bombs though

Sometimes planes don't attack me, but I just figured they were unarmed recon planes reporting my positino or something because right after that initial 'aircraft spotted' they just keep swarming me unless I submerge and change course or wait until nighttime. If I fire at the non-attacking planes they DO come at me. If I damage them enough (but not completely destroy) they will kamikaze me. Very frustrating if it's enough to sink you.

yes i only recently started playing the game and have only had the 1.2 patch. And yes I know that aircraft are my enemy but I want the game to be more realistic and to fear them. As it is now I don't even bother diving anymore.

Default Aircraft Magnet

I have exactly the opposite problem. I keep getting attacked by everything except a J3 Cub. AIrcraft regularly sink mu boat if I don't dive the very instant they are picked up. But, I may be just an aircraft magnet, I had the same problem in SH3, air attack every hour... I will probably have to mod a boat with twin 40's fore and aft to survive more than one patrol.

(sometime later after some serious testing)

OK the fact that I am being attacked seems to be due to the mod I am using "ParaB's tweaked air strikes" THe mod increases the effectivness of the aircrews during daylight...the game config file must have used the three stooges as crew models.
