A Tusnami hit Austrailia. No joke this time. I saw it on the news just a few minutes ago. Will come back later for more info.

Update: Apparently, it was the Soloman Islands (Still in the Pacific) that were majorly affected. Many missing, and more presumed dead. The wave was quite a few meters high, and it took out villages and just about everything in the way.
![]() That is the tusnami (in red) undersea event recorded by a DARTS II Tusnami Detection Buoy about two hundred miles off the coast of New Guinea.

Having looked into it, we appear to have been basically untouched - Cooktown, in northern QLD is the closest point on the mainland to the quake, and apparently they received waves approx 10-20cm higher than normal.
The warning went right the way down the eastern seaboard, and even onto tassie, so thats one hell of a quake! given as it has been reported now at about 9 or so on the richter scale, i'll be surprised if there isnt a lot more damage than has been reported thus far. |
