[TEC] Best dds for idiots application?

.dds is something I've never seen before, and I can only kind of poke at it right now. What is the best, and I mean the simplest, .dds-for-idiots application to use for viewing them and for editing them? Can they be easily converted to and from .tga?

I use the DDS Thumbnail Viewer and the Windows Texture Viewer...very good for quickly scanning through folders full of DDS files.

This is the program I use for converting DDS to BMP/TGA:

Any tips on when you convert to .dds? There seems to be a lot of options for filtering, etc.

When converting anything for use in SH4, use DXT5 is all the advice I can give. I think you can leave all the other options at their defaults.
