Funny how in the 1950s and early 60s Verne was movie studio gold: 20,000 Leagues, Around the World in 80 Days, Journey to the Center of the Earth, The Mysterious Island, plus some of his minor works Lighthouse at the Edge of the World, etc. Captain Nemo and the Nautilus made a comeback in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, but in retrospect probably wish they hadn't.

May I ask why you think they shouldnt have brought Captian Nemo back?

James Mason. Classic English actor. North by Northwest springs to mind.

I'm not faulting Nemo per se. Just that League as a movie was panned by film critics and fans of the graphic novel alike. Sean Connery, in particular was unhappy with it and it had some influence on his decision to retire from acting.

I've seen this film a few times already, but enjoy each subsequent viewing as much as the last. I think anyone who has ever seen this film, if nothing else, will remember the classic scene featuring the giant squid.

Edit: Ack, I need to pay attention to the dates. I thought this was on this evening. Was just getting ready to watch it.
