No radio room eh...
Please oh please let SHIV have dynamic radio communications. I don't think they realise how much this adds to immersion.
If the radio communication is like that of SHIII...

Did you read Neal's preview? I think the addition of dynamic communications (the ships have signal lights too) makes up for the lack of a 3D radio room. It's a vast improvement over gameplay for the loss of a bit of eye candy. I would rather have had both of course. I'm going to need to find a new place to hang up my pin-up girls.

Let's hope those guy's in this topic http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...287#post403287
will succeed in their moddeling. Perhaps they can make the radioroom theirselves.

NO RAdio room!!! "AARRGHHH RANT RAVE HOWL HOWL CURSE CURSE" .....actually I dont give a toss, i never used the one in SH3, it was just a bit of eye candy, anyway we are getting more subs to play with this time around, so its a worthy trade off..

As for the lack of AI subs..... AARRGHHH RANT RAVE HOWL HOWL CURSE CURSE!!!

I hope there is a gramaphone placed somewhere in the sub as I liked playing my own mp3s during patrols.

I've been watching posts regarding the lack of a radio room with interest and trying to decide how I feel about it. My conclusion is (as if you could care less :rotfl: ) : No big deal as there's nothing there anyway. Radar was typically handled in the conning tower or control room and the captain didn't have to go to the radio room to read a message (unless some RM2c was looking for a change of rate to SM3rd).

If damaged and the radio is out, as captain, I don't really need to go look at it. Just knowing it's being worked on should suffice.

No offense intended to those who would like to see it .

Salute!

As I wrote in another thread, I was quite surprised to read this snippet from Neal's article too. I would have expected the next iteration of the series to add to the sections modeled within the subs, not subtract from the already arguably limited list as it stands. I'll concede that while the radio room isn't as critical as the control room, having it modeled serves an important function for many--it adds to the immersion of the experience. And that shouldn't be underestimated.

Whilst on patrol, all you have is the sub you're sailing in. At various times on patrol, I would appreciate and enjoy the freedom of exploring various compartments of my sub (contol room, engine room, torpedo room, etc). To have this ability adds immeasurably to the level of immersion you experience in a sim such as this. As good as SH4 is looking, I was dissapointed to read the develpment cycle for SH4 is being rushed. I would've preferred the devs had an unaccelerated development timeline, rather than be constrained by a limiting "accelerated development cyle" snapping at their heels.

While I can certainly appreciate that modeling extra compartments is time and resource consuming (read dollar), in the end I can't help but believe Ubi would deliver a superior product, period. Personally, I would've been willing to pay extra and wait longer for SH4's release. That being said, it is what it is. I can't deny the project looks exciting, and while I eagerly await the release--I can't help but wonder how much better it could have been.

Ok! As long as the dynamic messages are there, that's all that really counts.
For some reason the radio room is less important (for me) in US subs in the pacific then atlantic U-boats.
I just don't want to see this:

USS Wahoo: sending patrol report
HQ: Be more aggressive!

I like the SH3 radio room, but I think it's there mainly because it's right next to the hydrophone room, and you can't have the one without seeing the other. In US subs the radio room probably was more isolated, so there's no real need to see it. In SH3 you don't go to the radio room to get messages anyway, you just click 'M'.

I can live without 3d radio room, also is in a isolated place and is very tiny compared with a u boat room. also there is a conning tower in 3d .

Extra compartments could delay too much the SH4 release and can need more hardware power. i prefer a no 3d room and a good campaign with less bugs

I suppose I'm in the minority, but it doesn't really bother me. I probably spend 0.0002% of my time looking at the 3d views of the inside of my sub in SH3, and that's only when I'm bored while on patrol. So long as the functionality of the station remains, I really don't mind if the room isn't modelled.
