Default Yah!!! I got a new graphics card!!

I got myself a new graphics card for SHIV! I had a GeForce FX5200 AGP 128 MB Low Profile card. The New card is a Geforce 6200 AGP 256MB Low Profile Card.

It may not sound like much of an upgrade (It's the best you can do for a Low profile / half hight card), but it means I can run SHIV at something more than the lowest settings. I just have to get some more memory and I'll be set!!

It took some searching, as low profile cards for AGP are slim on the ground, especialy in Australia!!!

This means I can keep my system for another year or two, before replacing it!

No offense, but that probably won't play SH4 better than low settings. It's still an upgrade, though, however minor it seems.

I dunno about half-heights though. That probably is the best, or at least close to the best, that you can get for low-pro AGP.

Yep. A move to a 6600 may have been better but I'm not sure about this half-height stuff?

Well

because the 6600 GT isnt so expensive..
I think you should cross ur fingers when installing SHIV with ur 6200

I would have gone to the 6600Gt because its a Performance card.

but anyway...its better then the 5200 thought

@ Hunter ICX

The only concern with those 6200 cards is to make sure that you don't wind up with a 64-bit version as they a renowned to be absolute rubbish. Either a 128-bit one or as you suggested a better choice would be a 6600GT.

Everyone out here is soaking up these AGP x1950 Pro's. It ads life to an AGP only system. Two guys at work here have now bought them and swear by them! The Sapphire models have 512 MB and only cost $250.

Except he needs a low-profile card. I think the 6200 is the best low-pro card on the market. At least it's the best low-pro on NewEgg (AGP).

I would love to go for a better card, but I'm restricted to a half hight card (the slot isn't full size, so that limits choice)

I hopeing that I will be able to get a new computer after I get married in April (as long as the OIC gives approval!)

Yeah, and before long, ATI's R600 cards (X2--- series) will be out, dropping prices.

I like the 6200 TC's because they are passive and very low power. I recommend them for Linux machines, mini form factors, and "media centers".

X2800XTX!!!

Yeah, the only thing about 6200's is that TurboCache mooches off of your system RAM. Not a good thing.

Not all 6200 models have TC, there are also "normal" ones.

The one I purchased doesn't have TC. It has 256 MB on the card, so it won't be stealing any from the graphics.

I will be installing the card later this week. I'm hoping some some improvement (I'm not expecting too much from it!), but a boost would be nice.

Now I've got to get myself some RAM!!
