Default SH 3 with Sea Wolves exp. problems

I am new. I recently downloaded SH III from D2D. During the Naval Academy, the section on Convoys, I completed that section and it said while I was in that section that I had successfully sunk over 8,000 tons and had passed, that I could exit at anytime. I did but my record of training said that I had not successfully passed. Huh?

Do I need the patch 1.4 since I downloaded the geme recently? I also bought from a retail store Grey Wolves and it had patch 1.4 on it, the CD. But, it would not, the patch, download. How can I tell if I have Grey Wolves properly installed? How can I tell if my SHIII with GW is installed properly?

What does the triangle that is on a ship that is targeted colors mean? Sometimes they are green, yellow, orange, red?

Why is the ship ID book in German? How can you tell what nation merchant ship belong to?

I appreciate your help.

1.4b Patch is needed.

The 'Triangle' shows your chance of actually hitting your target. Red=Bad Yellow=Maybe Green=Good.

The Recognition Manual has a section just for Merchants. Open the manual and click once on the left arrow.

Now, the patch version on your disc will be for the DVD version of SH3, you need the d/l patch version for either the US or Europe.http://www.silent-hunteriii.com/uk/updates.php

Ok, also, I assume this is a typo, you have purchased Sea Wolves.Yes? Grey Wolves is a totally different entity.

I Hope this helps, Welcome to Subsim. Have a look around, there is so much here. If it hasn't been asked/done here then it can't be done.

Did everyone see how restrained I was.

Whoa so many questions

First off Hi and welcome to subsim

Ok its Seawolves you bought not Grey Wolves - as Grey Wolves is a free mod and not for sale

Yes you do need the 1.4b patch
You also need the right on for your install - http://patches.ubi.com/silent_hunter_3/silent_hunter_3_download_1.4b_us.exe

Unistall SH3 and delete all folders left
Reinstall SH3
Apply the patch then install Seawolves

( you could just unistall Seawolves but in my experience you are better off starting from scratch )

The triangles represent how good your firing angle is
Green is good Red is terrible lol

The ID book is in German as its a Uboat game
The merchants are all in one section
Handelsschiffe
You can identify who the ship belongs to by the flag it flies

I am guessing the SHIII version you have is the US download
If so then this is the link

If you look at the bottom right corner of the Main Menu, you will see a v1.4, which means you have successfully installed the patch. If you still have problems installing the patch, try getting it from Gameshadow. You must download the current version from the Gameshadow Website, the version on the SH3 install DVD is outdated.

Greetings

Gabriel

Default Sea Wolves exp.

I do have 1.4 at the bottom of SHIII, but Sea Wolves does not come up as Sea Wolves anywhere. When I go to control panel it lists SeaWolves, but does not show any size file, ie: 34mb, etc. On programs, it list SHIII and also gives an option to UNINSTALL SW.

Where in the game could I go to be assured that I do in fact have SW?

When you put the Seawolves CD in your PC it will auto on the screen and there will be a 1.4 patch to click on.
It does not require you install SW to add the patch.
When SW is installed you still click on the original SH3 icon to play it.

If you still want to play and have SW as well as the GWX it is not hard at all to have both as separate installs.
Simply open the UBI folder in program files and change the SH3 folder to a new name like SW3. In the now SW3 named folder make a short cut copy of the exe icon and change the name of that short cut icon to SW3 and drag that to your desk top.
Delete the original SH3 icon.
Now put the SH3 DVD back in and click install, then click repair and it will add a new SH3. Patch that to 1.4 and install GWX to that.
If you decide to do that post later and we can show you how to move some of the nice ships in SW-Med over to GWX.

I am sure 0nce you have played GWX you will not want to run anything else but in fairness SW-med came out before the first GW and is now old by current GWX standards.

Also make sure you go to combatplanes.ca, support an down load the sw_101 & sw_101b patch for seawolves or you will get alot of CTD. Down load the to your main silent hunter floder then look in there and you will see an icon for each patch click on each one and run it you then will see the manual pop up on your desk top. I ran seawolves when it first came out, now strickly GWX 10 time better.

Regards

Chuck
