It would be nice to hope they'll give us more than three compartments. I'm not complaining, but it's something I see asked for on a regular basis. If not a full walkthrough sub, then at least the engineroom or the wardroom or somewhere else besides the same three rooms

I agree! It's a dream of mine and would definitely add greater immersion if not function.
That said - NOT at the cost of more important features like AI, ship damage, systems simulation and so on. |

From what we´ve seen so far it looks like they only implement the conning tower and the control room... It would have been my biggest "immersion" wish for SH3 to have a fully accessable U-Boat... maybe SH5 will bring it about???
Cheers, AS

Combined with the different station buttons (the slide out bar) there should be the possibility to move between and man stations in free mode. (walking up to the conning ladder, and actually climb up to get to the lookout view).

That was my biggest disappointment with SH3 (after bloody starforce that is!), when it became apparant that first day that only portions of the sub were modelled. The second, was that a lot of things such as periscope movement couldn't be operated in the 3d view.

I'm going to get shot for this but honestly I really don't see any need to go into any more of the compartments. The Skipper wouldn't go down and load the torpedos manually, he wouldn't go see if one of the ratings was having a nice nap down in the racks, and engines are the engineer's problem. If we need to see the head then they're really overmodelling things...
It'd be neat once or twice, but after that those compartments really don't have all that much interest for me and I'd rather see development time put into other areas. Yes I know I am a heretic. ![]()

Well, a real skipper also wouldn´t fly over the harbour and around his sub admiring how beautifully she goes through the waves in a stormy night, and yet most of us love to use the free 3D camera...
My 2 cents, AS

Yes, but you see the 3d world from the conning tower or the periscope, so that needs to be modelled.

I would love to see a wardroom where the captain could do the log.The wardroom is in the forward battery compt right next to the control room so I don't know how hard it would be.

No commercial subsim will EVER bring it about, in my opinion. It's not cost-effective, it's not profitable for any game company to do it. It's a waste of money, because the majority of game players aren't interested in such high attention to detail, only in graphics and gameplay. If it adds little or nothing to the gameplay, then it's not worth doing because it costs money and time better spent elsewhere. Think of it like a movie scene that is good, and interesting, and fleshes out the characters or the movie setting, but doesn't add very much or anything at all to the main plot - so it gets cut from the movie to save costs. Only an indie subsim can do a fully accessible boat, because then attention to detail can be the highest priority, and indie subsims don't need to be commercially successful or released in time for Christmas. You need to wait for something like IUF (Deamon's 'Imperial U-boat Flotilla' project) to be released before you'll ever have a fully accessible 3-D U-boat, complete with engines, bunks and WC. |

I agree I would like to see this, too, but I doubt it will happen. The more I hear about this sim the more it looks like SH3 re-textured to reflect a Pacific campaign. Hey, I'm not knocking that, I love SH3 and yes I know there will be newer things in SHIV that we don't have (and had no hope of ever getting) in SH3.
But it seems to me a lot of the physics and stuff has just been transplanted from SH3 with new eye candy like different sailor faces and body types. Please, don't get me wrong, I want this sim in the worst way. I just doubt it's going to set a bar for subsims like SH3 did. Eh, I could be wrong. It's been known to happen before....! :rotfl:

I don't need to see the torpedo room. Put the effort elsewhere.

I understand your arguments, but I don´t follow them. Those who are against a fully accessible sub always have two "arguments":
1. It´s a waste of money and time. 2. Put the effort elsewhere. Now these are just assertions that I don´t believe in. Every 3rd class ego shooter has huge 3D areas that you only rush through. SH3 has many harbours nobody cares to go to, and yet they are modelled. Currently, the Dev Team puts much time and money into developing skeletons for our subcrew, only to make them scratch their noses in a more realistic way (now THAT seems like a waste of time to me...), and, this is my strongest argument: The somewhat obsolete (but good!) ego shooter "Medal of Honour" had a fully accessable U-Boat, just for a little eye-candy mission that lasted 5 minutes (I repeat: FIVE MINUTES) if you were quick... Now why is it that Medal of Honour has a feature as a by-product whereas a submarine simulation is not able to have the same???????? So please don´t keep on telling me that "it can´t be done", "it´s too much work", "it costs so much money"
