While reading through this thread I noticed that SH3 subs can go much deeper than what is marked as their critical depth (in my type IX this is 160m).
Can anyone please tell the approximate maximum depth the various u-boats can withstand? Thanks for your help, M BTW - If it matters, I'm using GWX. ________ Bigstrongcock live Last edited by IRONxMortlock; 08-14-11 at 02:22 PM. |

Remember that you cant run along at those depths forever, al least not in GWX.

there is a little program that allows you to change the depth your sub can reach
or randomize it ... someone also made some gauges that go to 400 m dont remember who made it

You can take your boat as deep as you like...... or at least once anyway.

When WW2 began skippers were somewhat reluctant to dive very deep because crush depth was just a theoretical figure no-one would try out just for fun. When the war got harder and crews were more experinced they saw that they could go WAY deeper than what they had thought. Although they didn´t deliberately push it to the limit, it was common practise in later war to go to 200m when crash-diving. This was very deep and not too far away from the actual crush depth, but it was considered "safe" enough, and avoiding detection and depth charges justified such a depth.
Cheers, AS

osprey military " kriegsmarine U-Boats 1939-1945 " about the VIIC/41 :
" this variant featured extensive replacement of existing electrical equipment by newer, more compact models. The weight thus saved ( 11 tons ) was utilized in thickening the steel plate used for the preasure hull by a further 2.5 mm, thus increasing the diving capabilities from a maximum depth of 250 m to 300 m . The bow was also lenghtened slightly to increase seaworthiness " *with the program mentioned above one can randomize the crush depth from 250 m and deeper * this source also mentions the VIIC/42 wich was never build ... but since we have it in the game the planned depth for this type was 500 m , since it was going to use armour-plate instead of the normal steel, combining this with the adding of new turbochargers and extra lenght to add extra fuel capabilities *with the program mentioned above one can randomize the crush depth from 400 m and deeper * think im going to install it again ... humm ... must fing the 400m gauges also
