Default Ship's critical areas

Hi,

Does exist some guide to know which are the critical zones/parts of ships (merchants and warships) to aim the torpedoes to, in order to get maximum damage?

All I know is to aim under the smoke of merchants...I thought that some guide existed, even some guide like the recognition book but with critical zones indicated...

Tx

Depends if you are talking about stock game or GW/NYGM mods which until now use the same damage model, which is entirely different.

The central area is the best place to get a good, fast, and clean kill. Blows 'em right in half. They'll sink in seconds, hopefully before they can alert the escorts if any are present.

Well it depends on the damage model (i.e if you play NYGM/GW or stock) In GW usually you have to aim for the critical areas and they are not all in the centre of the ship (like the tankers for example)

Yes in the stock game ships sink with a clear hit in the centre. The NYGM Damage model though is a bit more tough. GWX has an even better damage model that allows realistic kills with spectacular effects (explosions, floods etc)

In GW the most common way for a ship to sink is by flooding, since outright explosions of the bulkhead seem to be rare .

Default Magnetic + Battleship = BOOM!?

Hey, has anyone managed to blow up a battleship using just 1 torpedo in magnetic mode??? If so, tell me how you did it

Yes - make sure you hit the ammo stores. If you are within (IIRC) 1000m & at approx 90deg to the target the recog manual will give you little boxes around the different areas of the ship. Engines, fore/aft ammo bunker & fuel storage etc. All you have to do is click on the box of your choice and the torpedo is 'auto' targeted & updated so you will have nearly a 100% chance of a critical hit.

Oh you mean in auto-targeting mode?? I didn't know you could click on the recognition manual for different ship areas...

But of course, since i don't use auto-targeting, the method is quite useless.Anyway, I'll check it out

Thanks for answers, they have been very useful.

But as I am using GW mod, there are several new ships that there is no information for, as I am making a new recogn manual with this info updated, I will need it. Do you know where (if any) can I find this information for the new ships included in GW?

Tx!

Yes, I've blown a battleship up with 1 torpedo. Just aim for ammo stores or fuel areas. In my case, I got him right in the rear. Don't know why he blew up the way he did either.
