I'm asking because I installed ver. 3.1 while at sea in an ongoing career, and the result was a totally black sky. I uninstalled it and the graphics were back to normal. BTW, I should mention that I had exactly the same experience with the 16 km distance mod.

I would suggest enabling it before you go out on patrol; I'm not sure if it can be enabled safely mid-career. Same deal for a lot of other mods; enabling or disabling them while at sea can really frig things up (black skies, ctds, etc.).
