I guess it depends on your definition of exaggeration. IIRC you're looking at 32 seconds versus 27. That's not an earth-shattering difference. And if you want fast diving time, a Type XI will travel the same distance as a VII, with decks away, and dive at 15 seconds. That is a MUCH bigger difference than a standard VII-IX comparison. So if diving time is your key requirement, a Type IX still wins out.
But hey, you've got a few hours under your belt and I'm sure you know what works best for you. Right now, as much as I miss my IXB, I'm sure enjoying my new XXI!
