From memory, the SO does report a 209 in locality but I checked my source documents and it showed that in DW the only German SS Diesel type sub was a TYPE 206A. I acted upon that considering as you said that the 206 has towed array.
A minor flaw really but also an unplanned deterrant or was it planned to test our quick thinking?

Good point, but hard to say for sure. On one hand, you can get 2 lines on the SA before you're counterdetected; on the other, there is only a 3hz difference when the freq's are in the 1500s, and you can't zoom in on the high end of the scale. My feel is that it wasn't intended that way.
