Twelve as a mysthic and mythological number is quite interesting:

in 12 are the first two numbers (1 and 2) (resambles something like like yin and yang)

in 12 there are the first three numbers (1+2=3)

in 12 are the first four numbers - the numbers of the Tetraktys (12 = 3*4 -> (1+2+3+4) = 10 (malkuth)

12 has more dividers then the numbers before (1,2,3,4,6,12). That may the reason it was choosen as a basic number for systems ( hours on the clock, months in the year)

Old masons had a rope which was divided in 12 parts. If you bild a triangel from it with side-lenghts of 3,4,5 you get a right angle.

The gnostics emanation knowed 12 aeons.

12 signs on the zodiac - in China and in the West

12 book of judges, 12 prophets, 12 tribes of israel (from 12 sons of Jakob)
