Yeah, I totally don't get that at all.
My sun looks like the one in this guy's screenshot.

As far as the .exe, I have a retail version from Gamestop patched to V1.1 .
Are you running ATI or Nvidia?

Seems more like the issue would be the ATI vs nVidia instead of the copy protection, though. I run a pretty 'plain Jane' system. I have Nero installed, but none of the virtual disk stuff it has, and no other imaging or CD copying stuff installed. (I'm also a software tech professionally, so run a VERY clean system - registry always A-OK, always defraged, no viruses or spyware or anything, etc) Never run into a copy protection problem with any game before.
As you seem to have guessed (or found from another post), my system is ATI-based. Radeon X1950 Pro.
I also turned on the v-sync, though - it'd be unusual for that to be related, but...had you seen this BEFORE changing that setting? Otherwise, I'm completely running stock Sh4 + patch, and that's it. No other changes.

Well the extreme blurry effect I experienced seemed to be a driver issue - so after 2 reloads of SH4 and 2 reloads of Cat 7.2 drivers I'm back in business.....But still not bloom effect
It seems we have a reverse situation in SH4 - in SHIII Nvidia users couldn't see the bloom effect but ATI was fine. As far as the V-sync question, I had played for awhile before changing the v-sync setting - so no, for me bloom was never there.
As far as the copy protection, you never really know what issues it can cause. I never would have guessed that missing eyes had anything to do with it until I read the Devs post. I run a pretty lean system as well, outside of Nero there is nothing that I can think of that would cause the protection scheme to question my copy of SH4 at all.
At this point it seems to be ATI specific, but it would be nice to have afew more confirmation of the effect not working or atleast 1 shot of an ATI with the bloom. Guess only time will tell.
