I didn't want to start my own post about it, but at least I now know I am not crazy. Same thing happened to me. Planes got my upper deck and I was able to dive and get away out to sea. Later when I came up to do repairs exactly what you describe happened to me for the entire journey back to Pearl. I ended up coming into port with nearly my entire watch and repair crews deceased.
