Ok, "I'll bite", as you put it: can you definitively prove the motive for Walz's retirement was specifically in an effort to avoid being deployed to Iraq and not just a soldier, having given 24 years of his life to the military simply wanting to seek other experiences?; further, any specific proof Walz's service was any other than honorable? We're waiting...

There has been ample evidence that Walz had been contemplating his retirement from the military at least a couple of years before turning in his papers and that has been affirmed by others who served in the Guard with him; also, Walz could have mustered out after he did his twenty years, but he chose to reup for another four years when 9/11 happened; somehow, it doesn't sound or seem like the actions of a soldier seeking to avoid combat...

As far as he might have know about the deployment before hand, I again challenge you to provide factual, verifiable evidence to back up such an assertion; anyone who has ever served in the National Guard during wartime knows that rumors of deployment abound in the ranks and a great many of those are just that, rumors...

If JD Vance and his ilk find the only way to aggrandize being a 4 year correspondent (which usually is a staff position, or as they used to say in Vietnam, a REMF) against a soldier who willingly gave up 24 years of his life in service to his country and served honorably, than I'd say that speaks to the fragility of Vance's ego and his tenuous grasp on a semblance of extensive military experience...

Another question to be considered: when Walz retired he was 41 years old; I don't think the US Army would think it would be a good idea to send a middle aged man into combat (and also consider he had already been treated for hearing loss due to his duty in the artillery); Walz would have most likely been posted somewhere away from combat and might not even have been sent with the rest of his unit; it makes more sense to make way for a younger, able-bodied, soldier than to task a guy on the downward side of life's bell curve to do combat duty...

Like I have said in other instances, use common sense and logic; it tends to work better than vile bellicose...
