But yeah in the real world, with the absence of reliable ship data. A zero gyro shot from close range is the best way to go. You would just need to a decent speed estimate. For that you can just input some "best guess" range and speed into the TDC and look at the track with the position keeper on. If you fire with zero gyro the range doesn't matter, just adjust the speed till the track is correct (something i actually do quite alot). AOB can be done visually. Your AOB can be off by quite a few degrees and be fine if you fire from the optimal position.
